The Problem

We were approached by a FMCG logistics company that was experiencing pressure across its supply chain due to cost

We were approached by a FMCG logistics company that was experiencing pressure across its supply chain due to cost restraints and tight margins.  Some of their challenges included stock availability issues impacting their high service levels, inconsistent planning processes and a limited understanding of end – to -end supply chain operations within some of their team.

Rendstaff worked them initially to do a skills analysis and identify the real skills gaps that were having an impact across their supply chain processes.  The business needed a practical development solution to upskill some of their employees while maintaining day to day operations and target levels.

The Solution

On understanding their full requirements, Liam one of our education advisors, aligned their needs to one of the leading UK training providers and a relevant apprenticeship programme.   We supported the organisation in selecting a Supply Chain Level 3 qualification tailored to the FMCG environment to help reduce the pressures they were under in the supply chain function.

The programme offered flexible delivery and focused on application examples that helped them move some of the blockers to their success.  Covering all the learning areas of the qualification, enabled employees in warehousing, planning and operations to apply learning directly to live supply chain challenges.  Helping them upskill their knowledge and practical competencies and ultimately improve their confidence on the job.

The Impact

Following completion of the qualification, the company reported clear benefits.

Improved understanding of their end-to-end supply chain operations, improved knowledge and management of stock control and their demand planning processes.  Best of all the gave feedback on the impact of their team who developed to be “more confident and capable supervisors and team leaders”.

The learners were able to identify inefficiencies, suggest changes and contribute more effectively to operational decision making, getting them more directly involved in business improvement.

By investing time in a Supply Chain Level 3 apprenticeship programme, the organisation strengthened operational resilience and improved service levels while developing a pipeline of more highly skilled supply chain professionals ready to support their future growth strategy.

We work with many of the UK’s top training providers to provide FMCG businesses and their employees, access to a wide selection of high-quality supply chain and warehouse programmes.
